OC-1

17 miles to the south of here, is a oc-1 Gator from Outtrigger Connection.. I might go buy that one man outrigger canoe today. They call them oc-1's, and I guess a lot of people race them. I like to go fast, but I don't really care to race. I'm not sure why I am so attracted to them. I am not sure why I am so attracted to anyone.. I guess they are sleek, sexy, and extremely light weight, or cute. Unfortunatly, they are huge... 22' long. Now... getting something this huge to the beach is not a problem, but keeping it at my place could be. This stupid park I live in doesn't like anything outside, except bikes, and barbques. I don't think there is anywhere in my house (trailer) that even goes straight for twenty feet. I guess I could leave it on top of my van?

So why... I guess for me, I have found no better connection to mother earth than, through her oceans. I like the mountains, I like hiking, fishing, lakes, the desert, pretty much the whole planet, except for the densely bulit cities. All of those things fill my soul with joy. But getting out there, steping off the terrafirma?? Looking back towards shore, that's what does it for me. Especially here in Santa Barbara, where the Santa Ynez Mountains, shoot straight above the coastline. You can easily imagine how it all looked, before we all got here. Really... if you just head out 20 miles or so, to the Channel Islands, it is pretty much exactly how it looked before we got here. On almost any day, in any way, getting out there cleanses my soul. I don't care if it's on a noisy power boat, sailing (which I haven't done in years), my beloved surfboards, which when connecting with a wave bring me immediatly into the moment, or most recently gliding my sit-on- top kayak across the glassy waters of Summerland and Carp.

That's why I want one. I was thinking I need a faster longer kayak. Then I met this woman who actually has a oc-1.. Of course, I was imediately in love.. I had looked at outriggers before and they looked awsome. But now, perhaps, a chance to actually try one. Well.. that hasn't happened yet.. due to a temporary relapse into the comfort of my old relationship... Damn! Off topic again.. Anyway, despite going in two completly separate directions, quitting each other, has been harder, than quitting smoking. btw.. NO FREAKIN' SMOKING FOR: One year, one month, two weeks, six days, 10 hours, 47 minutes and 24 seconds. 13709 cigarettes not smoked, saving $3,393.52. Life saved: 6 weeks, 5 days, 14 hours, 25 minutes.

That's really not much life saved, considering I had to give up cigarettes with my morning coffee... but it did put new life back into me. Now.. I can surf for hours, go on longer hikes, oh well you know. Ok... So... I just want to glide though the glassy Santa Barbara water on my sleek sexy one man outrigger. I heard you can surf open ocean waves on them which would be outstanding, but mostly I like feeling the glide...
